DOMINIC BEKAERT

DOMINIC CU UNJIENG BEKAERT is a Filipino-Belgian audiovisual director and film preservationist who lives and works in Manila. 

He was previously based in Paris, France, where he studied film production at ESEC (Ecole Supérieure d’études Cinématographiques) and graduated with a Master Degree in Film Preservation at the French National Institute for Audiovisual (INA). While living in France, he directed several short films, ads and music videos. 

He moved back to Manila in 2016 to head the National Film Archives of the Philippines, where he spearheaded the preservation and restoration of titles such as Insiang by Lino Brocka, Noli Me Tangere by Gerry De Leon and Batang Westside by Lav Diaz, among many others.

In 2019, he founded his own production company Zoopraxi Studio, with his wife & partner Clementine Bekaert. Through Zoopraxi Studio they conceptualized, produced, directed, shot and edited multiple award winning music videos, ads and a visual album.

SARGE LACUESTA is a novelist, short story writer, and essayist who also writes for film. He has won many awards for his writing, among them three National Book Awards, the NVM Gonzalez Award, numerous Palanca Memorial Awards and Philippines Graphic Awards, and the inaugural Madrigal Gonzalez Best First Book Award. 

His most recent work as a screenwriter is the upcoming “Song of the Fireflies” (Culturtain Productions) 

He is editor at large at Esquire magazine Philippines and president of PEN (Poets, Essayists, Novelists) Philippines. His most recent book is the novel JOY, published by Penguin Random House SEA in 2022.

DEE NERMAL is a film producer, creative strategist, and digital content director. As a Film Producer, her vision is to create a space that is sustainable, welcoming, and empowering to all Filipino creatives, regardless of background and resources.

This reflects in her works with Bold Eagle (2023) which won Best Film in Fantasia, Best Film in QCinema International Film Festival, and included in New York Film Festival and San Diego Asian Film Festival. Fisting: Never Tear Us Apart (2018) which won multiple awards locally and internationally including 5 awards at the Gawad Urian,  Mamang (2018) which competed at the Cairo International Film Festival and the Women’s International Film Festival, among others.

CLEMENTINE COMOY is a French Producer based in Manila since 2017. In 2018 she co-founded Zoopraxi Studio with Dominic Bekaert, and has since produced several adds, and music videos for popular international and Filipino singers, such as FKJ, (((O))) - June Marieezy, Zack Tabudlo, and Nadine Lustre. Zoopraxi’s 30min visual album WILDEST DREAMS, for Nadine Lustre, was critically acclaimed and awarded the Special Achievement MYX Award in 2021. 

Holder of a BA in Film Studies, and a MA in audiovisual Archiving, Clémentine moved into producing fiction in 2021, when she produced Dominic’s Bekaert latest short film, Mabini, written by Sarge Lacuesta.
